What the drum remover does
Drummers have always wanted the "minus one" version of a song: everything except the drums, so they can play the part themselves. Very few records come with one. This drum remover creates it with AI. It separates a song into vocals, drums, bass and other instruments, then rebuilds the song without the drum stem. The result sounds like the original band with an empty drum stool.
The same run gives you the opposite as well. Solo the drums and you have an isolated drum track, which is ideal for transcribing a groove, studying how a drummer plays a fill, or sampling a break. Both versions come from one processing pass, so you can switch between them instantly in the mixer.
How to remove drums from a song
- Load the song. Drop an MP3, WAV, FLAC or M4A file into the box, or choose a video file with the song in it.
- Wait for the separation. On a computer with WebGPU the drum remover usually needs well under a minute per song. The first run downloads the AI model once.
- Listen to the drumless version. The drum stem starts muted. Press play and check that the kit is gone.
- Download. "Download drumless track" saves the song without drums. "Download drums only" saves the isolated drum stem.
Drum remover for drum practice
Playing along to a drumless track is one of the fastest ways to get tight with a band. You hear exactly where the bass player pushes, where the singer breathes and where the guitar leaves space for a fill. Some practice ideas:
- Learn the original part first. Solo the drums and listen through once, then switch to the drumless version and play it back from memory.
- Lock in with the bass. Mute everything except the bass stem to practise kick and bass locking, then bring the rest back.
- Keep a ghost of the drums. Set the drum volume to 10–20 percent instead of muting it. You still hear the original as a guide while your own playing is on top.
- Record yourself. Play over the drumless track and record the result. Comparing it with the original drum stem shows where you rush or drag.

How clean is the drum removal?
Drums are one of the easiest instruments for the AI to separate, because their sharp attacks and noisy cymbals look very different from sustained notes. On most rock, pop, funk, hip-hop and electronic tracks the drum remover leaves very little behind. What you may still notice:
- A faint cymbal wash on very bright, dense mixes, usually hidden once you play along.
- Percussive guitar strums or slapped bass occasionally losing a bit of their attack.
- Drum machines with tonal sounds (tuned 808 kicks) splitting between the drums and bass stems. Check the bass stem if a kick seems to be missing.
Other ways drummers and producers use it
Sampling and beat making
Pull a drum break out of a song and chop it in your sampler, or remove the original drums and program new ones under the same music. Mind the copyright of anything you release.
Teaching
Drum teachers prepare drumless versions of the songs their students want to learn, together with an isolated drum track to transcribe from.
Covers and video
Drum cover channels need a backing track without drums. The drum remover gives one in a minute, with the vocals and the band intact.
Works in your browser, no upload
The drum remover runs on your own computer through WebGPU. Your song is processed locally and never uploaded, there is no account and no limit on how many songs you split. For the fastest results use a recent Chrome or Edge on a laptop or desktop. If you also want to separate the vocals or bass, the main stem splitter and the song splitter use the same engine.
