An acapella extractor for remixers and DJs
An acapella is the vocal of a song with no music behind it. Remixers build new tracks around acapellas, DJs layer them over other records, and singers study them to learn phrasing. Official acapellas exist for only a small share of songs. An acapella extractor fills that gap: it uses AI to separate the voice from a finished mix so you can make an acapella of almost anything.
This acapella extractor is built on HT-Demucs v4, an open AI separation model from Meta AI Research. It splits the song into vocals, drums, bass and other instruments. The vocal stem is your acapella; the other three stems give you the instrumental at the same time.
How to extract an acapella
- Drop the song into the box. Studio versions work better than live recordings.
- Wait for the acapella extractor to finish. The first run downloads the 170 MB AI model once.
- Press play. The instruments start muted, so you hear the acapella on its own.
- Click "Download acapella" for the vocals, or "Download instrumental" for the other half.
Acapella extractor tips for cleaner vocals
- Pick the right version. Radio edits and album versions usually have drier vocals than extended or live mixes, so they extract more cleanly.
- Use the highest quality file. MP3 compression smears high frequencies, which shows up as a swishy sound in the acapella.
- Gate the gaps. Most leftover music is audible only between phrases, where the voice is silent. A noise gate or quick clip edit removes it.
- Add your own reverb. Part of the original reverb may stay with the instruments. A short room reverb in your project makes the acapella sit naturally again.
- Watch for vocal samples. The model counts chopped vocal samples and vocal-like synths as vocals, so they come along with the singer.
What to do with an acapella
Remixes and bootlegs
Find the tempo and key of the acapella, then build a new production under it. Because the acapella extractor keeps the original timing, the vocal matches the song's bar structure from the first beat.
DJ edits and mashups
Layer an acapella over an instrumental of another track for a live mashup. Load the acapella WAV into your DJ software like any other track.
Singing and vocal practice
Hear every breath, slide and harmony of a performance in detail, then sing along with the acapella to match the phrasing.
Lyrics and translation
Without the band the words are easier to catch, which helps with transcribing lyrics and subtitling music videos.
Acapella extractor vs vocal remover
| Tool | Main output | Also gives you |
|---|---|---|
| Acapella extractor (this page) | Vocals only | Instrumental, 4 stems |
| Vocal remover | Instrumental only | Vocals, 4 stems |
| Stem splitter | All 4 stems | Any custom mix |
All three use the same separation, so the acapella quality is identical. The pages only differ in which result they put first.
Free, private and in your browser
The acapella extractor runs entirely on your device using WebGPU. Your song is never uploaded, there are no accounts or limits, and nothing is watermarked. For the fastest result use a recent Chrome or Edge on a computer with a graphics card; other browsers work too but process on the CPU, which takes longer.
